First Look: Hilary Duff in “What Goes Up”
The What Goes Up insider blog has just posted a new interview / preview with Hilary Duff!
In the movie What Goes Up, Hilary Duff plays a “narcissistic seductress” named Lucy who attempts to win over the much older Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan) when he returns to his hometown to cover the news of the first civilian in space. The blog entry describes Lucy as someone who “eventually reveals much more depth than the way people perceive her.”
The video above contains two scenes from What Goes Up with Steve Coogan, and an interview with Hilary talking about living life with people perceiving you differently than how you are. This is something Hilary feels she shares with Lucy. Hilary talks about other things, including how great it was to work on this particular movie with such a talented cast.
The Insider blog has also revealed more details about the World Premiere today of What Goes Up at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival. They also list which theaters will be premiering the movie on May 29th.

What Goes Up follows a “morally challenged” NY reporter, Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan), who returns to a small New Hampshire town to cover his hometown news surrounding the first civilian and teacher in space in the 1980s, giving us a glimpse into how heroes are made in this world. While there, he learns a few life lessons from a group of disaffected students (Hilary Duff, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby) who are mourning the loss of their teacher (and Babbitt’s friend), who committed suicide. “What Goes Up” Out in May
April 9, 2009 by Arieanna
Hilary Duff’s movie, What Goes Up (originally called Safety Glass) will have a limited theatrical release in select cities this May. The exact cities and dates are still being determined, but I’m glad to hear that the movie will hit theaters!
The producers have put up a new blog, outlining a few new details and graphics for the film, with promises of insights, updates and guest appearances by the cast and crew.
I can now clarify why the two trailers we’ve seen have different names. The first one, by the What Goes Up title, is the official trailer released by Sony for the US. The second trailer was an earlier cut for the purposes of securing international distribution, and goes by the original title Safety Glass. Great to have that clarification!
What Goes Up follows a “morally challenged” NY reporter, Campbell Babbitt (Steve Coogan), who returns to a small New Hampshire town to cover his hometown news surrounding the first civilian and teacher in space in the 1980s (Christa McAuliffe), giving us a glimpse into how heroes are made in this world. While there, he learns a few life lessons from a group of disaffected students (Hilary Duff, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby) who are mourning the loss of their teacher (and Babbitt’s friend), who committed suicide.
Here’s a part of the official description that speaks well to the storyline:
He discovers the least likely teachers — a group of dysfunctional high school students, misfits, and outcasts led by a narcissistic seductress (Hilary Duff), a repressed voyeur (Josh Peck), and a scheming pregnant teen (Olivia Thirlby). After sharing his own lapse of ethics in New York to gain their trust, Babbitt becomes obsessed with their subtleties of manipulation, need for attention, and desire to make heroes where no heroes exist.
The students end up teaching Babbitt that he may need a “hero” more than the students need him to replace their lost “hero.” And, when he finds this common ground with them, he begins to relate to them in potentially “perilous” ways (think ‘affair with student’ ways).
Stay tuned for more What Goes Up news between now and its release in May! And click here for more photos from the film.

2 “Safety Glass” / “What Goes Up” Trailers
April 2, 2009 by Arieanna
Hilary Duff’s upcoming movie What Goes Up (Safety Glass) now has out 2 trailers, so I though I would put them in one post so you can see everything there is to know about this movie.
Hilary Duff stars in Safety Glass as Lucy, one of several disaffected students whose hero, their teacher, killed himself under a cloud of scandal. The film is seen through the eyes of a reporter covering the Challenger space shuttle launch in 1986.
The second film trailer, which only recently came out, shows us a little more about the reporter, played by Steve Coogan, and his interactions with the small town. Particularly as he faces the sexuality of the teens at school, including Duff’s character, Lucy. I think it’s a great trailer for the film.
Choose Your Fave “Greta” Poster
March 30, 2009 by Arieanna
Hilary Duff’s upcoming movie Greta, which recently released a brand new trailer, is ramping up its promotions by asking YOU which poster you love the most!

You can head on over to the official Greta website to vote on which of the 2 posters you like best. I personally like the blue one on the left - I think it’s a better photo of Hilary - though I do like the water and sun of the yellow one. What do you think??
So far the yellow poster has 2372 votes, beating out the blue one at 1632 votes (59% vs 41%)

New “Greta” Trailer!
March 20, 2009 by Arieanna
This has been a fantastic week for news about Hilary Duff’s upcoming movies! Not only will Stay Cool be premiering soon, but we now have a preview for Greta!
Hilary Duff stars as Greta, a 17-year-old girl struggling with feelings of suicide. Pushed aside by her mother Karen, Greta goes off to her grandparents (Ellen Burstyn, Michael Murphy) in Ocean Grove for the summer… against her will. She makes it known that she wants to kill herself during the summer, and compiles a book of suicide methods. It’s not until Greta falls for the short-order cook (Evan Ross)
at the diner where she works, and realizes that people care for her fate, that things change.
As shown in the movie, you can tell that Greta is troubled, fearing her future and her own feelings. She tries to strike out at the people that care for her, thinking suicide is the only thing she has control over. It’s a really provocative film - I’m quite excited to see it!!
There will be a special advanced screening for Greta on April 2nd, 2009 at the Landmark Theaters in Westwood, California. See here for more information. If you do end up going, please email me a review of what you thought!!
Learn more about Greta and check out the promo stills here or the official website.

“What Goes Up” Trailer

Hilary Duff’s upcoming movie What Goes Up (Safety Glass) has out a new trailer!!
Hilary Duff stars in Safety Glass as Lucy, one of several disaffected students whose hero, their teacher, killed himself under a cloud of scandal. The film is seen through the eyes of a reporter covering the Challenger space shuttle launch in 1986.
The trailer describes the movie as a “comedy about life, death, and all the touching moments in between.”
The preview was put together by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, which could mean the movie is going straight to DVD instead of to the theaters. It’s currently unclear. The Sony site does not yet have a release date associated with the film.
What do you think of the movie??

“Safety Glass” Photos
January 13, 2009 by Arieanna
Hilary Duff’s upcoming movie Safety Glass, which was renamed What Goes Up for a while, is now back to being Safety Glass.
Hilary Duff co-stars in Safety Glass with Steve Coogan, Molly Shannon & Olivia Thirlby. The movie, set in the mid-1980s, follows an “emotionally damaged” New York reporter who is sent to cover the hooplah over a hometown hero. The reporter doesn’t like his assignment, so instead decides to follow a group of disaffected students whose own hero - a beloved teacher - has just killed himself under a cloud of scandal. Hilary Duff stars in the movie as Lucy, one of the students in her final year.
Safety Glass was produced by Nasser Entertainment Group with Jonathan Glatzer as writer/director with Robert Lawson also attached as writer.
