Hilary Duff Visits Florida Schools

March 4, 2009 by Arieanna

Hilary Duff flew into Florida on Monday to start a week of tours for her Blessings in a Backpack charity. On Tuesday, Hilary Duff attended a fundraiser for the charity at Bacchus restaurant in Fort Myers (see photos here).

The next day (today), Hilary paid a visit to Tice Elementary School to share why she’s a part of the program, which sends home backpacks of food to kids so they and their families can eat over the weekends. Hilary says:

“It really affects me and everyone that hears about it. Just a neighborhood away from where you are, people are really suffering and they need our help”

510 students at Tice Elementary are a part of the Blessings in a Backpack program. Hilary talked with the students, met several of them individually, and spent some time packing backpacks for this Friday.

“It changes my life too. It’s kind of selfish because I love doing it and it rewards me so much”

Tice Elementary has 95% of its students on free and reduced lunch Federal programs, the highest in the county. Blessings in a Backpack ensures that these kids don’t go hungry when they go home. Hilary Duff, in an interview with the news, reminds everyone that these kids are our future and they can’t learn without fuel in their bodies.
