Hilary Duff for ThinkB4YouSpeak
October 8, 2008 by Arieanna
As mentioned before, Hilary Duff filmed a public service announcement that discourages bullying and harassment of teenagers who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
The Advertising Council, which co-ordinates public service campaigns, is introducing a series of ads meant to tackle these social issues. The campaign begins today, and was created pro bono by the New York based Arnold Worldwide.
The campaign is meant to educate teens and to encourage them to stop using derogatory language, particularly calling things “gay” in a negative way. Often hateful language is just the start, leading to hurtful behavior. It all starts with kids learning it’s ok to disrespect people. The theme of the campaign is:
“When you say, ‘That’s so gay,’ do you realize what you say? Knock it off.”
There will be television and radio commercials, print and outdoor ads and a special Web site devoted to the campaign (thinkb4youspeak.com). In Hilary Duff’s tv commercial, she talks to some girls who call an outfit “gay” instead of “bad”, and explains how silly it is to say that. Check out the video:
Take some time to review the ThinkB4YouSpeak website - are you using cruel language and perhaps you don’t even know it?

Its a good idea too advertise those types of things so teens don,t say offensive things.
It’s great that Hilary’s non-discriminatory and supports these kind of campaigns. Indeed homosexuals do get extremely offended when the word is used by heterosexuals too liberally.
i agree w/ this but this commercial was vry cheesy
thats so girl wearing a skirt as a top xD
loool
this is possibly the only thing hilary duff supports that I dont.
Stopping people saying “gay” as an insult meaning something bad isnt really an insult to gay people because it’s totally unrelated to them.
I call things gay all the time.
there ya go, a gay guys view on calling things gay.
This is such an immature politically coorect scheme gone way out of proportion. I’m gay, I call things gay all the time, your only insulted if you let it be. Please do not associate this pathetic idea with mature homosexual people
kool hope it comes on tv and i say stuff like its so gay well i will try not 2 say it
luv u hil.
see, 2 gay peoples opinions exactly the same
