Hilary Duff’s Dad Arrested
Hilary Duff’s father, Robert Duff, was arrested last yesterday for contempt of court. Bob Duff has been sent by the judge to a Texas county jail. He has been ordered to spend 10 days in jail.
According to The Houston Chronicle, the contempt of court charge stems from a violation of a court injunction. The injunction stated that Bob Duff could not sell any of his assets without court approval, as part of the divorce agreement between Bob Duff and Susan Duff. He failed to get court approval when he sold some of his assets. Bob Duff’s bond is set at $367,537, the amount he earned from selling stocks last month.
A judge in Harris County was hearing the case on Wednesday - it ended with Bob Duff being escorted out in handcuffs with the contempt of court charge. The court meeting between Bob, Susan and their lawyers was heated with accusations of lying and unethical legal practice. Neither Hilary nor Haylie was in court for the hearing.
During the hearing, Susan Duff took the stand to ask for $25,000 to fund a present and party for Hilary Duff’s 21st birthday on September 28th - the same price that was spent by Bob for Haylie when she turned 21. Susan says the stipend from Bob is not enough to live by, let alone to throw a party, and that her lawyers are already being paid for by Hilary.
Susan Duff testified that Hilary Duff is "emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father" and should receive the funds for the birthday "to have some kind of recognition for a young life well-lived."
After Bob Duff was hand cuffed, Susan Duff gasped in shock and was heard to say "This isn’t what I wanted." Bob Duff wanted to speak with a reporter, but a gag order from the court prevents him from making public statements.

A lot of sites are saying how he was arrested for not paying up for her bday bash! How stupid! He got arrested for violating court injunction!
And he left them, he had an affair with someone else.
I hate how on loads of sites people are saying Hilary and her mom are out for money! Purlease, $25,000 is nothing for Hilary, she has money!
I feel bad for her mom! And for Hilary!

for those of you think that hilary should throw her OWN party, and buy her own gift, why would anyone do that?! do YOU buy yourself your own birthday presents? if you do, i pity you! and hilary’s mom just want an equal birthday for both girls. hilary is way more successful, and deserves a bigger party than haylie, but yeah. it’s hilary’s 21st! that’s a special birthday! hope she gets all she wants! god knows she’s work hard for it! it’s her birthday, and hilary shouldn’t spend a dime!TEAM HILARY!

i agree with “sammm”… She is like THE hardest working young star out there today and really gets nothing SPECIAL out of it. And i hate it when people say they are SPOILED. its so dumb!! they are not, they worked so hard for that money, not inheriting any of it. So, i just want the best for Hilary and let her have her Birthday in peace with Family and Friends. she shouldnt have to spend a dime cause its her special day.

why she is asking 25 thousand when she earns more than 7 million last year. Forget the dad. That is the rigth thing to do. Sued him will not make you feel comfortable. Trust me.

Susan is being stupid trying to get money out of Bob and Hilary should not be wasting her money on attorneys fees when all that will happen is attorneys get rich and her father gets sent to prison. Stop now Hilary and Susan before things get even worse. You don’t need his money.

Well, as this story goes, he just shouldn’t have sold some of his assets. This does not make him a bad person for protecting himself from the demands of the lawsuit against him.
Hilary needs to have support for and confidence in her father right now no matter what he and her mother are going through between themselves.
She needs to lose the crippling influence of and connection to her boyfriend who has been detrimental and debilitating to her professional career and image, and the personal directions and substance of her life.
She needs to stick by and support both her mom and her sister no matter what relationship her mom and dad may be undergoing in their family dynamic, meaning she has to keep it all together and realize that even if her parents aren’t together, they are still her parents.
It was a small mistake, perhaps an oversight, on the part of her father, but it is not an uncommon occurrence in divorce settlements for these financial matters to happen.

I feel so sorry for Hilary! I can’t belive she’s going trough all of this. seriously, first a divorce, then her dad in jail ( no matter how long he was there!. It must be so hard for her :’(

There is more to this story we aren’t getting:
1. Why does Hilary look to her father to pay for her Bday party - when it turns out that she spends most of her free time with Mike Comrie. Just a year ago Mike purchased an $80K vehicle for Hilary.
2. Why does Mr. Duff have to pay any money at all? Both Duffs are over 18 years old.
3. How is it that, according to Susan Duff, Hilary has the money to pay Susan’s lawyer fees, yet needs $12,500 for a Bday party?
After reading this I better understand the lyrics to Play With Fire. They were written for Daddy Duff.
