Stalkers, break-ups, and box office bombs - the past year has been anything but smooth for the pop princess, Hilary Duff, 19. Luckily, the name of her new album, Dignity isn’t just a fancy title - Hils has always been the most sensible of the hollywoods teen scene, and, to borrow a line from our favourite punk-pop boys, faced all the challenges with a sense of and rationality (thanks, Panic!). Now with a mature new look, a fragrance line (With Love… Hilary Duff) and a sexy sound, Hils is set to take by storm all over again.
Hey Hilary, how are you feeling about your new record?
It’s really exciting. I’ve been living with it for a while and i just want people to hear it now. I want to see people dance to it. I wrote the whole thing, which is something I’ve never done before.This time i was like, "I want to do it all". I knew i wanted to do a dance record but still a record that meant stuff. There are so many records on the air that are like," Shake your ass, blah blah blah". I love that kind of music, but i wanted my record to have some meaning, too.Do you ever feel trapped by the fact that a lot of your fans are still tweens?
For a while i did. There’s a certain feeling you go through when you’re my age and everyone knows who you are and they’ve watched you grow up.You feel scared to do something different, but you get to a point where you’re like "Well, I’ve got to do things that make me happy. I have to challenge myself ". I’m not that kind of person to go off and act crazy like some people. I know who I’m, I know what I’m capable of, and I’m going to work hard to get what i want. I think it looks stupid when people turn 19 and then do everything they can do to rebel against who they’ve been.It looks like your not mature at all.
Like Lindsay Lohan?
I’m not pecking her. I think its been everybody.Have you ever made up with Lindsay?
It’s so crazy. We’ve met and we see each other we say hi. It’s not like we had to apologize to each other. I mean, its a little strange coz now there’s been so much put up against us and so much of it isn’t true. It makes it all a bit awkward.Didn’t you both date Aaron Carter?
Like, when we were 13! We held hands and danced a whole body width apart.It’s like when your at school and it’s so lame.It came out that, "I stole him and then she stole him back".That’s still going on with Starvros Nicarchos… Well, everyone passes everyone around. I have a song on my record about that.
It’s happened to you too, hasn’t it, with Joel Madden and Nicole Richie?
Well, it has but I’m not so part of it.It seems like everyone is friends one day, when it’s convenient and in front of a camera, and then not friends the next day. And then they talk bad about each other at the club. It’s so crazy.Are you still friends with Joel?
We email. We’re cool. I wouldn’t say we’re friends but things ended really great. All I for him is to be really happy. When I broke up with him, I had to think of all the things, like, "Well I’m going to see him out with somebody else, probably". I read somewhere that I called Nicole Richie a skank but, I mean come on; I don’t even know her, I want him to be happy. Of course its not really fun to see your boyfriend out with someone else but it was my decision.There are pictures of Nicole wearing an engagement ring…
Really? I don’t really read magazines that often. I go on pinkisthenewblog.com every once in a while. I used to be friends with Trent, but then he wasn’t nice to me anymore.He started talking bad about my sister. He started making rude and skanky comments, which i just felt were unnecessary.Out of all the young stars, you’re just about the only one who seems to be ok...
I know. At first I was like," Well she’s a good girl, she’s perfect and blah blah…". I don’t understand why it was looked down that I didn’t didn’t do things like get drunk at the clubs every night. I’m healthy.There was a rumour that you were the worst of the bunch, that your addicted to painkillers!
No! I’ve heard rumours that I’m at a club and I’m doing stuff and some of them might be true and some might be not, but I’ve never heard that I’m addicted to painkillers! It’s kind of funny though.Did you always want to be a pop star?
I’ve lived in the country when i was small so I didn’t get to watch TV much, so I didn’t really grow up with any celebrity idols. I knew Sandy from Grease and thought she was pretty hot but I didn’t get that she was, like, a real person.So my sister and I got involved in school plays and acting. I got a part in a TV ad.It was, like, modelling for bad department stores, but I loved it! Then I saw my picture in the paper and I was like, "Wow, that’s me".What was the worst outfit you had to wear?
Oh, these little sunday school outfits! They were really hideous but I thought they were really cool at the time.Then my sister and I found these photos like, 10 years later and we were like, "Wow, these are hideous!"Did you ever hang out with the Olsen twins back then? They’re older than me. We didn’t really hang out with the same crowd.
Do you get paparazzi-ed a lot?
I do.It’s funny because it seems in LA everyone is trying to top each other, like, "What crazy thing can I do next?"Like Britney?
Well, all of them. I like these people but I don’t do stuff like that coz i choose not to and I feel I work so hard that I don’t want it to become apart of my life. I like to have my personal life separate.Some people take photos of me going into a club but normally i go in the back. I feel it’s avoidable if you want it to be.Do you drink when you go out?
Yeah, when I feel like it, but I’m not that type of person to go out and get sh*t faced! I like to let loose with my friends, I have fun with my friends dancing and doing that stuff and I don’t feel like I need to be totally wasted to have fun.Do you come in contact with drugs?
Well, I grew up in LA and it’s filled with all these young celebrities who are just on the brink of being huge and successful. I was young and there was a really big group of us that hung out together. I saw a lot of people from this group turn to drugs and literally fall off the face of the earth.It really affected me.Have you ever been offered drugs before?
I have. Joel and I went to see Bloc Party one time and this guy said to him, "Hey do you want…" I think he said ecstasy or something, it was something pretty crazy. I don’t do drugs, and Joel said, "No, are you serious dude?" and the guy got mad because he wouldn’t do it. Joel was like "Get out of here. Whats wrong with you?"You work hard.Are you worried about heading for a breakdown?
I’m pretty relaxed. I get really tired but we just have fun. I’m really driven, but I know when I need to take a break.

ye i agree 2 the world needs more ppl like hilary im so happy for hilary she always stays true to who she really is. in some ways i wish she was still with joel.. i dunno maybe coz i jus got used 2 them as a couple, anyways when the time is right 4 her she’ll find some1 else. Deep down i think she’s the same person and always will b; she’s still hilary.

Gosh people she swore…ONCE…big deal! Shes growing up like Sam said, just like every other 19 year old, shes gonna swear isn’t she? Im sure you do sometimes. This interview is so interesting, good questions which she always answers honestly. I love that about her, she isn’t afraid to show who she is. I agree with some of you, we need more people in the world like Hil! Shes so so amazing in every way. Yeah maybe she isn’t perfect all the time, but know one is. Shes an adult now and will do things that maybe we don’t do yet cause most of us are probably younger than her. She can’t stay Lizzie McGuire all her life! Its good to see she sticks up for her sis, like with the Trent from pinkisthenewblog.com thing…Hil or Hayl dont deserve to be talked nastily about.

Ehhh…I don’t know about this interview. I think some parts of it could have been manipulated. There are spelling and grammar mistakes and I don’t think Hilary would admit to drinking publicly, if she even does it at all. She said she wasn’t on Jimmy Kimmel this summer. She has said before that she doesn’t go out for the scene…she’s more mature than that…

If you notice, they dont even quote her on most of the bad parts.. its making me think its not true..
Maybe it isn’t spelled correctly or the grammer isn’t correct cause Jackie typed it up for us? Theres bound to be mistakes. But they could’ve changed some of it, magazines normally do dont they…
The thing about drinking might be true but if hil duz drink its probably like the odd glass of wine not like a bottle of vodca a day. and in england n sum places in america you only hav 2 b 18 to drink so its not completely unheard of is it???
ppl complain that she swore ive seen 5,6 n 7 yr olds swearing more than that n sum swear words mean different things in different countries like bo****ks dusnt mean much in the us but in th uk its quite a big swear word and i would like one person to truthfully say they had never sworn if they had dropped summin or summin.

Exactly…I’ll believe what I believe is Hilary. And it’s not this…
Also, magazines have misquoted her before, like in “Jane” magazine when she allegedly talked about her virginity and then later she said it was manifested and she would never make a statement about it…I think this is one of those incidents and I don’t think there’s any cause for concern…:)
Thing is though - there is a difference between drinking and getting drunk.
She sounds like she’s saying that she has a couple of drinks when she goes out.. Which is fine! ..she is a teenager.
Why wouldn’t she admit that? there is nothing wrong with that.
But she is sensible enough not to go out and get ‘Sh*t faced’. Like go to far.
And so she swears? like i said - she is 19 - do you really expect her not to?
She seems like a totally mature and down to earth person. Let her be who she wants to be.
